| Preston Shot.

I have been using this style of shot for the past two years after reading a review in one of the monthly magazines. I have found that the 'cut ' has been fairly consistent in all the sizes that I have used, which range from number 8 through to number 13, although now I only prefer to use the Number 8's, 9's and 10's, at this moment in time. Any of the smaller size I have found irregular in shape making them difficult to place on the line ending with more on the bank or in the vacuum cleaner than I would like.
As can be seen from the picture these shot come in tubes with a plastic cap, which you remove to dispense the shot by then shaking them through a smaller opening which, by design, should limit the amount dispensed. However I have also lost shot when I have opened the cap because there is nothing to stop the tube filling naturally prior to opening.
Having said that, I like the larger shot because of its accuracy in cut. When you place it on your line it will sit consistent with its neighbour.

| Piombo Shot Remover.

This item of tackle is one piece of kit I cannot do with out having been using it now for the past three years. One of my WMP teammates, Tony Web, put me onto it.
It operates by keeping the line tight between the two 'V' slots, with the metal spike above the shot. It is just a case of closing the piombo and the spike with open the shot for you. Saves you biting the line or cutting through it. This little gadget will also work with the very fine lines that our winter canal match men like using.
On the other end are two metal blades, which I use as style pliers, or small shot pliers. The only draw back is the lack of instructions for use. It is Italian in manufacture
and so were the instructions!

| Daiwa 412 (16 Metre) Pole.

I bought this pole in March this year. I had been fishing the Preston Innovations Walsall winter league on the local canal circuit, and found that at times a 16metre pole would have been advantageous. I spoke with a couple local anglers and discovered that the Garbolino Renaissance, Tournament x or the 412 were the most popular and talked about poles of this size. TheTournament x was well out my price range, so that was given the elbow, although if I had the dosh would have been my choice. The Garbolino is another excellent pole, but as soon as I held the 412 It was mine. At 16 metres I can hold it with relative ease, even on a moderate windy day and being supplied with two power kits and two match kits, (but on order you can specify what top kits you desire.) I found it to be an all round model. For the summer months I removed my number one section from the match kits and turned then into a modified power kit. Upon first use I was very cautious in approach, as the sections seemed very spongy to the touch, and yes can split if you are heavy handed in your grip, but soon got used to it. The pole comes at 14.5 metres as standard and with an extra section, it goes to16 metres. On the commercial fisheries, I have had only two occasions where I have found it necessary to use it at full length, and they were both beneficial to me giving me extra wary fish in the net. The pole itself has arrows on each section which supposedly, when lined up, give the pole its maximum strength, although to be fair I have not found much difference having landed double figure fish when its not been lined up.
There are some extremely good bargains to be had on the market this day and
age, which are cheaper than the 412 and its all down to personal choice but I am
very happy with this pole even though spares can be expensive.
